- Take 100 employees and total salary 6 units: manufacturing has 20 people with 1 unit; the rest have 80 people with 5 units.
- Average salaries: \(\frac{1}{20}\) and \(\frac{5}{80} = \frac{1}{16}\).
- Ratio \(= \frac{1}{20} : \frac{1}{16} = 16 : 20 = 4 : 5\).
Shortcut. Ratio \(= \frac{1/6}{1/5} : \frac{5/6}{4/5} = \frac{5}{6}:\frac{25}{24} = 4:5\).
